MergeMeter is a web + mobile app for traffic engineers and planners to quantify how bad (and why) specific merge points, short on-ramps, and lane drops are—without waiting months for a full study. It combines quick field collection (phone-based video capture, manual counts, and optional Bluetooth travel-time probes) with lightweight AI video analytics to estimate queue length, merge friction, near-stops, and capacity loss by time of day. The app outputs a simple “Merge Pain Score,” before/after comparisons, and a short report that can be attached to grant applications, council packets, or contractor scopes. It’s not a magic traffic optimizer; it’s a pragmatic measurement tool that helps teams prioritize the few locations where small design or signal-timing changes actually move the needle. It also supports temporary work-zone setups to validate whether a detour or taper length is making flow worse.
