MetaMender
MetaMender is a web app (with optional desktop uploader) that helps libraries and archives fix, normalize, and enrich messy digital-library metadata at scale. It ingests CSV/MARCXML/Dublin Core exports, flags inconsistencies (dates, names, subjects, identifiers), and suggests standardized values using controlled vocabularies (LCNAF, LCSH, VIAF, GeoNames). An AI-assisted workflow proposes merges for duplicate records, generates brief abstracts from existing fields (not full-text hallucinations), and produces a clear audit trail so staff can accept, reject, or edit every change. Exports go back out in the same schema your repository expects, reducing rework and vendor lock-in. Realistically, this doesn’t “magically” fix bad source data; it saves time by making cleanup systematic, reviewable, and repeatable, especially for backlogs and grant-driven digitization projects.
