MetaMender

MetaMender is a web app (with optional API) that audits and repairs institutional repository metadata at scale. Repositories often accumulate inconsistent author names, broken DOIs, missing ORCIDs, malformed dates, duplicate records, and nonstandard subject terms—quietly tanking discovery, reporting, and downstream integrations. MetaMender connects to common repository platforms via OAI-PMH/REST exports, runs rule-based validation plus AI-assisted normalization, and produces a review queue with confidence scores and suggested fixes. Librarians can approve changes in bulk, export patch files, or push updates back via supported APIs. It also generates monthly “metadata health” reports for administrators, highlighting trends and the specific fields causing the most harm. This is not glamorous software, but it targets a chronic operational problem that staff currently handle with spreadsheets, scripts, and manual spot-checking.
