MetaMender
MetaMender is a web + desktop companion app that audits and repairs descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata for digitized collections before it hits your repository. It ingests CSV/Excel exports and common library/archive formats (MODS, Dublin Core, EAD, MARCXML), flags schema violations, missing required fields, inconsistent dates/names, and controlled-vocabulary drift, then proposes safe, reviewable fixes. A rules engine lets institutions codify local practices (e.g., date formatting, rights statements, collection codes) and apply them consistently across batches. An AI assist mode suggests normalizations (name authority matching, subject cleanup, language detection) but everything is tracked with change logs and rollback. Export back to your target system with validation reports suitable for grant documentation and internal QA. It’s not glamorous, but it removes a chronic bottleneck that quietly sabotages discoverability and long-term management.
