MeterSmith
MeterSmith is a web + desktop app that scans a poem line-by-line for meter, stress patterns, and rhythm breaks, then suggests concrete edits that preserve meaning. Unlike generic writing tools, it focuses narrowly on craft mechanics poets actually revise: scansion, substitutions, caesura placement, and enjambment impact. You paste a draft, choose an intended form (blank verse, iambic pentameter, common meter, etc.), and the app highlights where the line deviates, why it deviates, and offers 2–4 rewrite options with syllable/stress counts. It also includes a “read-aloud” mode that compares natural speech stress to target meter, because many drafts fail when spoken. This is an AI-assisted app combined with deterministic prosody rules; the AI helps propose rewrites, but the rules keep it from hallucinating nonsense. Monetization: subscription for advanced forms, export, and workshop sharing.
