MilkweedMap

MilkweedMap is a mobile + web app that helps conservation groups and everyday gardeners locate, verify, and maintain butterfly/moth host plants (starting with milkweeds, nettles, and native grasses). Users log plant patches with GPS, photos, and simple habitat notes; the app then runs an AI-assisted plant ID confidence score and flags likely misidentifications for review. Land managers can create “stewardship tasks” (remove invasives, avoid mowing windows, seed additions) and assign them to volunteers with check-in photos. The map highlights high-value corridors and gaps using basic habitat suitability layers and local species calendars. This is not a generic butterfly-spotting app; it’s a practical operations tool for improving breeding habitat quality, with measurable before/after outcomes and exportable reports for grants and municipalities.
