MosquitoMap

MosquitoMap is a mobile app that helps people understand and reduce mosquito exposure at the neighborhood level. Users drop a pin for their home, log bites and sightings in 10 seconds, and optionally connect cheap Bluetooth temperature/humidity sensors to improve local risk estimates. The app combines public weather data, satellite-derived standing-water indicators, and community reports to produce a simple daily “bite risk” score and practical actions (best spray timing, yard checks, window/door reminders). It also supports “event mode” for outdoor gatherings with a 48-hour forecast and checklist. This is not a miracle solution: data will be noisy, and predictions won’t be perfect. The value is in making prevention easier and more timely than generic advice, and in giving communities a shared, privacy-respecting view of hotspots.
