NeighborWatt

NeighborWatt is a mobile + web app that helps neighborhoods reduce peak electricity use through simple, coordinated “micro-events” (e.g., delay laundry 60 minutes, pre-cool homes, charge EVs after 10pm). Users join a verified local group (HOA, apartment building, block club) and opt into events triggered by utility peak alerts or community goals. The app shows a clear, non-technical impact estimate (kWh and $) and a group progress bar, plus lightweight social accountability (pledges, reminders, and shout-outs). It’s not a feel-good leaderboard; it’s a practical coordination tool that makes demand response approachable without requiring smart-home gear. For communities with smart meters, it can connect via utility “Green Button”/interval data where available to validate aggregate impact; otherwise it uses self-reported actions and optional smart plug integrations. Monetization is via community subscriptions paid by HOAs/building managers or local sustainability programs.
