NestProof

NestProof is a mobile + web citizen-science app for reporting and verifying sensitive wildlife breeding sites (bird nests, turtle nests, denning areas) without exposing exact coordinates to the public. Volunteers submit a geotagged report, but the app automatically “fuzzes” public maps and stores precise coordinates in a restricted layer accessible only to approved project admins. A lightweight verification workflow lets trusted reviewers request extra evidence (photos, habitat notes, time window) and assign confidence scores. Offline-first capture supports remote areas, and the app generates standardized exports for conservation NGOs and agencies. This is not a generic iNaturalist clone; it focuses on high-risk observations where data misuse (poaching, disturbance) is a real problem. Realistically, adoption depends on partnerships with local conservation groups; without them, it’s just another reporting app.
