OAClaimCheck
OAClaimCheck is a web app (with a lightweight browser extension) that verifies whether a paper is truly open access and what you’re allowed to do with it. Users paste a DOI, URL, or upload a PDF; the app returns the license (e.g., CC BY), version status (published vs accepted manuscript), embargo info, and a plain-English “can I share this on my site/LMS?” answer with citations. It also flags common traps: “free to read” pages without reuse rights, predatory journal claims, and mismatched licenses between publisher page and PDF. Libraries can configure institutional policies and link-resolver rules, then provide a public checker for faculty and students. This is not a discovery tool; it’s a compliance and risk-reduction tool for sharing and archiving. It’s realistic because it leans on existing metadata sources and focuses on a narrow, painful workflow.
