PermaWatch

PermaWatch is a web + mobile app that helps Arctic and subarctic communities, field teams, and infrastructure owners monitor permafrost thaw risk using a simple, map-based dashboard. It blends public satellite layers (surface temperature, land cover, subsidence proxies) with local observations (photos, ground temperature logs, building cracks, road heave) to produce a practical “risk trend” score per site. The goal isn’t academic modeling—it’s early warning and maintenance planning: which culverts to inspect, which road segment to prioritize, when to schedule a site visit, and how conditions changed since last season. The app supports offline field capture, repeat-photo points, and exportable reports for grants and compliance. It’s realistic about uncertainty: it shows confidence bands and data gaps rather than pretending to be perfectly predictive. This is an AI-assisted app (for change detection and anomaly triage) plus traditional GIS workflows.
