PhantomLoad helps homeowners identify “always-on” electricity waste (standby/phantom loads) without requiring smart plugs everywhere. It connects to your utility smart meter (Green Button / utility API where available) or a compatible home energy monitor, then runs short, guided “power-down tests” (e.g., turn off a circuit for 10 minutes) to isolate which circuits and device clusters are leaking power. The app estimates monthly cost, ranks the biggest offenders, and recommends the cheapest fixes first (power strips, device settings, router schedules, dehumidifier timers). It also tracks before/after savings and sends alerts when baseline usage creeps up again. This is a realistic, narrow-scope product: it won’t magically disaggregate every appliance, but it can reliably reduce baseline usage for many homes with simple experiments and clear ROI.
