PHEVReality is a mobile + web app that compares hybrids and plug-in hybrids using realistic, personalized driving and charging behavior—not brochure MPG. Users enter commute distance, highway/city mix, climate, fuel price, electricity rate, and how often they can actually plug in. The app outputs a “likely MPG/MPGe range,” monthly fuel+electric cost, and break-even vs comparable gas and EV options. It also flags common gotchas: short-trip winter penalties, battery depletion patterns, and whether a PHEV will mostly behave like a heavy hybrid for your routine. Data sources combine public EPA/WLTP specs with crowdsourced real-world reports and optional OBD-II logs for users who want higher accuracy. The goal is to stop people from overpaying for a PHEV they won’t charge, or buying a hybrid expecting EV-like savings. It’s not glamorous, but it’s practical.
