RecallRadar

RecallRadar is a mobile + web app that tracks what food you actually bought and warns you when it becomes unsafe or recalled. Users scan receipts (email, PDF, or photo) or connect loyalty accounts, then the app normalizes items to UPC/GTIN and matches them against FDA/USDA/CFIA recall feeds and retailer recall pages. When a match happens, it sends a clear alert with affected lot/date ranges, photos, and what to do next (discard, return, or contact). It also supports household profiles so parents can monitor kids’ snacks and caregivers can track vulnerable family members. This is not a “nutrition” app; it’s a safety and risk-reduction tool. Monetization is simple: free for basic alerts, paid for multi-household, retailer integrations, and extended history. The hard truth: accuracy lives or dies on item matching and receipt parsing, so the MVP must focus on a narrow set of retailers and regions first.
