RecipeRoots is a mobile + web AI app that helps people understand where a dish actually comes from, how it evolved, and what “authentic” realistically means. Users scan a menu item, recipe, or TikTok dish name and get a concise origin brief: region, time period, diaspora influences, common variants, and what’s historically disputed. It also flags common misinformation (e.g., invented “traditional” claims) and provides culturally respectful substitutions when ingredients aren’t accessible. The app is intentionally not a recipe app first; it’s a provenance and context layer that sits on top of whatever you already cook or order. A community feature lets verified contributors (chefs, food historians, diaspora cooks) annotate sources, while regular users can save “dish timelines” and build a personal map of cuisines they’ve explored. Monetization: premium scans, offline packs, and partner content with culinary schools/museums.
