RefScan

RefScan is a web app (with a lightweight browser extension) that helps libraries and archives turn messy reading lists, syllabi, and bibliographies into actionable acquisition and access decisions. Staff paste a citation list or upload a PDF; the app parses references, normalizes metadata, and matches items against the library’s catalog/knowledge base (via Z39.50/SRU, Alma/WorldCat exports, or KBART). It outputs a clean report: already owned (print/e), available via open access, missing but high-demand, and “needs manual review.” It also flags broken DOIs/URLs, edition mismatches, and duplicate requests. This is a combination traditional + AI app: AI is used for citation parsing and fuzzy matching, while the workflow, integrations, and reporting are standard software. The goal is not magic automation—it's reducing the hours wasted on manual checking and spreadsheet chaos.
