RightsRadar
RightsRadar is a web app (with optional desktop uploader) that helps libraries and archives decide whether an item can be digitized and shared, and what access level is safest. Staff upload basic metadata (author, date, publication info, donor agreement text) and optionally a scan of the rights page or deed of gift. The app uses AI to extract key clauses, flag missing info, and generate a plain-language rights summary with a confidence score and recommended actions (e.g., “OK for on-site only,” “seek permission,” “likely public domain,” “orphan work risk”). It also creates an audit trail: what was reviewed, by whom, what sources were checked, and what policy was applied. This is not a magic legal oracle; it’s a workflow tool that reduces repetitive research, standardizes decisions, and makes risk visible so institutions can move faster without pretending risk is zero.
