RipScout

RipScout is a mobile app (traditional + AI) that helps surfers choose safer, more suitable spots by combining forecast data with on-the-ground hazard reporting. It aggregates swell, wind, tide, and buoy data, then overlays local risk signals like rip current likelihood, shorebreak intensity, crowding, and access issues. The AI component summarizes conditions in plain language (“fast closeouts, strong southbound sweep, best at mid-tide”) and flags mismatches between a user’s skill level and the day’s hazards. Users can submit quick incident reports (near-drowning, board snaps, injuries, stingrays, theft) with time/location to build a real-time safety layer. The app is brutally practical: it won’t make you surf better, but it can reduce wasted drives and genuinely dangerous calls. Monetization is via a low-cost subscription for advanced alerts, saved spot profiles, and offline maps.
