RuralBid

RuralBid is a mobile + web app that lets small farmers and rural producers run simple, time-boxed auctions for their harvest or goods (maize, beans, milk, honey, fish, handicrafts) to nearby verified buyers. Instead of calling middlemen one by one, producers post quantity, grade, pickup window, and location; buyers place bids and commit with a small deposit. The app supports low-connectivity workflows: offline listing creation, SMS/USSD notifications, and lightweight photo compression. It also provides basic price history by region, buyer reliability scores, and a dispute workflow for weight/quality disagreements. This is not a “marketplace for everything”; it focuses on a narrow, high-frequency transaction: selling what you already produced. Monetization is a small transaction fee paid by buyers and optional subscription for cooperatives/aggregators to manage multiple members and track deliveries.
