SafeCast
SafeCast is a mobile app (with a lightweight parent web dashboard) that curates kid-appropriate podcasts and audiobooks, then adds the missing layer parents actually want: searchable transcripts, topic flags, and predictable playback rules. Instead of relying on vague “kid-friendly” labels, SafeCast generates episode transcripts and highlights sensitive themes (violence, bullying, scary content, ads/sponsorships, mature language) so parents can approve or block with confidence. Kids get a simple, visual player with big buttons, offline downloads, and a daily listening streak that doesn’t push endless autoplay. Parents set time windows (e.g., mornings only), maximum minutes per day, and “approved-only” mode for car rides or bedtime. This is an AI + traditional app: AI is used for transcription and content labeling, while the core experience is a straightforward media player and controls. It’s realistic because it doesn’t require exclusive content—just better safety and governance on top of existing feeds and licensed catalogs.
