SchemaSentry
SchemaSentry is a web app (with a lightweight CLI) that continuously tests database migrations against realistic, production-shaped datasets and query workloads. Instead of just running “migrate up/down,” it spins up ephemeral database clones, applies pending migrations, replays a sampled query trace, and flags performance regressions, lock risks, and backward-compatibility breaks (e.g., dropping columns still read by older services). It generates a concise report with the exact migration step, failing queries, and suggested safe patterns (expand/contract, online index creation, backfills). This is not a magic autopilot: it won’t fix bad schema design for you, and it can’t guarantee zero incidents. But it can reliably catch the common, expensive mistakes teams keep repeating—especially in microservices and fast-release environments—before they hit production.
