SealSense

SealSense is a mobile + web app that helps small-boat operators reduce harmful interactions with marine mammals by translating real-time underwater noise and GPS context into clear operating guidance. Using a low-cost Bluetooth hydrophone (or an existing onboard sounder feed where available), the app estimates vessel noise levels, flags risky patterns (rapid acceleration, high RPM near sensitive areas), and suggests quieter throttle profiles. It also provides local rules, seasonal advisories, and a simple incident log for compliance and insurance documentation. This is a combination traditional + AI app: traditional for maps, rules, and logging; AI for audio classification and risk scoring. Realistically, it won’t “detect whales perfectly” on a phone—so the product focuses on what it can reliably do: reduce noise and improve operator behavior with measurable metrics and training feedback.
