SeatSignal

SeatSignal is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard for agencies) that predicts bus crowding and seat availability using a mix of real-time signals: onboard APC (automatic passenger counters) when available, GTFS-Realtime vehicle positions, and anonymous rider check-ins. Riders see a simple “likely seats / standing / packed” indicator per arriving bus, plus a reliability score that tells you when the prediction is weak. The agency dashboard highlights chronically overloaded trips and stop-level dwell-time spikes so planners can adjust schedules or deploy extra buses. This is a combination traditional + AI app: traditional for routing/ETAs and data plumbing, AI for crowding inference and confidence scoring. The hard truth: accuracy will never be perfect, so the product must be transparent about uncertainty and focus on being directionally useful, not magical.
