SetupBuddy

SetupBuddy is a mobile app (iOS/Android) that uses the phone camera to guide families through board and card game setup step-by-step. You scan the box cover and components; the app identifies the game and then overlays simple visual instructions (AR-style) showing where to place boards, decks, tokens, and player pieces. It also includes a “missing pieces” check that flags what’s not on the table and suggests quick substitutions (e.g., use coins for tokens) so play can start. For kids, it offers a short animated “how to win” explanation and a 60-second practice round to reduce rule confusion. This is a combination app: traditional app flows plus AI computer vision to recognize components and validate setup. The goal is to cut the biggest friction in family game night: setup and rule misunderstandings that kill momentum.
