ShadeRoute

ShadeRoute helps walkers choose routes that feel noticeably cooler by prioritizing shade, tree cover, and sun exposure by time of day. You enter a start and destination, then pick a preference slider: “fastest” vs “shadiest” vs “coolest.” The app estimates sun exposure along each segment using map geometry, building footprints, and tree canopy data, then recommends a route with an “exposure score” and an expected temperature-feel reduction. It also warns when a route has long sun-baked stretches and suggests water refill points. This is not a magic safety app; it’s a comfort and heat-management tool for everyday walking, commuting, and errands. Monetization is realistic: a small subscription for advanced forecasts and offline maps, plus city/enterprise licensing for campus and municipal wayfinding. The MVP focuses on a few cities with good open data instead of pretending to cover everywhere perfectly.
