ShadeScore
ShadeScore is a mobile + web AI app that helps residents and city teams reduce heat exposure by choosing and improving cooler routes. For residents, it suggests the “least-heat” path between two points using a blend of tree canopy, building shade, surface materials, time-of-day sun angle, and recent temperature data. For cities and BIDs, it highlights heat hot-spots on pedestrian networks and recommends the highest-impact micro-interventions (trees, shade sails, cool pavement, drinking fountains) with rough cost and expected cooling benefit. The app is realistic about uncertainty: it shows confidence levels, explains why a route is cooler, and avoids pretending it has perfect sensor coverage. It can also collect lightweight crowdsourced feedback (“felt hotter/ cooler than expected”) to improve local calibration over time. The goal is practical: fewer heat-stress incidents and more walkability during hot months.
