ShelfSentry is a web + mobile app for special collections reading rooms to manage item retrieval, handling compliance, and chain-of-custody with minimal friction. Staff create a session for a researcher, scan item barcodes/QRs at pull, delivery, return, and reshelving, and log condition notes with quick photo capture. The mobile interface guides staff and patrons through handling rules (gloves, supports, page limits) and records acknowledgements. A lightweight incident workflow flags anomalies (late returns, item mismatch, repeated handling violations) and produces audit-ready reports for administrators and insurers. It’s a traditional app with a small AI component that auto-suggests condition keywords from photos and normalizes free-text notes into consistent terminology. This is not a digitization platform; it’s operational control for physical materials where mistakes are expensive and reputationally damaging.
