ShelfSync

ShelfSync is a mobile + web app that helps libraries keep shelf inventory accurate without expensive RFID rollouts. Staff use a phone camera to scan spines in a pass down an aisle; the app matches barcodes/labels, flags missing or mis-shelved items, and generates a prioritized “fix list” by section. A lightweight web dashboard shows discrepancy trends, high-loss areas, and time-to-reshelve metrics, and exports tasks to existing ILS workflows. It’s not glamorous: the value is reducing patron frustration (“it says available but it’s not there”), cutting staff time wasted on blind searching, and improving holds fulfillment rates. The product is designed to integrate with common ILS via SIP2/NCIP where possible, but can also run as a standalone reconciliation layer using nightly item exports. Expect edge cases (damaged labels, poor lighting) and plan for human verification loops rather than pretending it’s fully automatic.
