ShelterSync

ShelterSync is a mobile + web app that shows which nearby emergency shelters are actually open, staffed, and not full during extreme events (hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires, blizzards). The core problem today is that official lists are often outdated, and people waste critical time driving to closed or overcrowded locations. ShelterSync combines official feeds (when available) with verified on-the-ground updates from shelter operators and vetted volunteers. It provides capacity estimates, accessibility info, pet policies, generator power status, and the fastest safe route based on road closures. An AI layer helps detect stale or conflicting reports, flags likely misinformation, and predicts near-term capacity based on recent check-ins. Offline-first maps and a low-bandwidth mode keep it usable when networks degrade. This is not a “weather app”; it’s a logistics and trust app for the last mile of evacuation and survival.
