ShoeSense

ShoeSense is a mobile app (iOS/Android) that helps runners and walkers decide when to retire shoes based on real usage, not guesswork. It pulls activity distance and pace from Strava/Apple Health/Garmin, then asks for quick weekly check-ins (pain points, outsole wear photos, cushioning feel). The app estimates remaining “effective mileage” per pair and flags injury-risk patterns (e.g., rising shin pain + high weekly load + old shoes). It also tracks rotation across multiple pairs and suggests which pair to use today based on planned workout intensity and surface. This is an AI-assisted app: computer vision scores outsole wear from photos, and a lightweight model predicts degradation trends per brand/model using aggregated anonymized data. It’s realistic: it won’t “prevent injuries,” but it can reduce bad decisions like overusing dead shoes and forgetting what you ran in.
