SidelineSign

SidelineSign is a mobile + web app that turns real-time sports communication into accessible text for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing athletes and spectators. Coaches and staff run the app on a phone near the bench; it captures speech, identifies speakers (coach, assistant, trainer), and streams low-latency captions to athletes’ phones, smartwatches, or a shared tablet display. It also supports quick “preset plays” and hand-signal translations so teams aren’t forced to rely on perfect speech recognition in noisy gyms. For leagues and venues, a web dashboard manages teams, permissions, and session logs (optional) to help with compliance and incident review. This is not magic: accuracy will drop in loud environments, so the product focuses on practical workflows—push-to-talk mode, mic recommendations, and short command vocabularies—to stay usable in real games.
