SkillBadges is a web + mobile app for makerspaces that issues and verifies micro-certifications for tool and process competency (laser cutter, CNC, resin printing, soldering, etc.). Members complete short checkouts: a quick quiz, a required safety video, and an instructor sign-off with a standardized rubric. The app then generates a scannable badge (QR/NFC optional) that staff can verify instantly at the tool. It also tracks expirations (e.g., annual refreshers), incident notes, and “allowed materials/settings” constraints per member to reduce misuse. This is not a magic safety solution—people still make mistakes—but it meaningfully reduces staff time spent repeating the same onboarding and gives operators a defensible, auditable training record. It’s designed for real-world constraints: volunteer staff, inconsistent schedules, and mixed skill levels.
