SnowRoute

SnowRoute is a mobile app (with an optional web dashboard) that plans drives around winter-specific hazards: untreated roads, steep grades, wind-prone bridges, lake-effect corridors, and known whiteout zones. Instead of only optimizing time, it optimizes “arrive safely” using a winter risk score that blends road weather forecasts, DOT plow/salt activity, elevation/grade data, and recent user hazard reports (spinouts, black ice, closures). Drivers can choose profiles (2WD sedan, AWD, winter tires, towing) and set risk tolerance to get alternate routes that avoid the worst segments even if they add minutes. It also provides departure-time recommendations (wait 30 minutes for plows) and a simple “safe stop” map (open gas stations, rest areas) when conditions deteriorate. This is a combination app: traditional navigation plus AI-assisted risk scoring and alerting.
