SourceSleuth
SourceSleuth is a web app (with a lightweight mobile companion) for students, educators, and science communicators who want to verify popular “history of science” claims fast. Paste a quote, anecdote, or textbook paragraph (e.g., “Galileo dropped balls from Pisa” or “Newton invented calculus alone”), and the app builds a citation trail: earliest known appearance, how it mutated over time, and what primary/near-primary sources actually say. It’s a combination traditional + AI app: AI proposes candidate sources and summarizes passages, while the product emphasizes transparent evidence (scans, page numbers, editions, translations). Users can create shareable “claim cards” with confidence levels, annotated bibliographies, and a timeline of re-tellings. Realistically, it won’t replace deep scholarship; it’s a triage tool that helps people avoid repeating myths and speeds up the first 80% of research.
