SourceTrail Newsroom

SourceTrail Newsroom is a web app (with a lightweight mobile companion) that helps journalists and small newsrooms build verifiable stories faster by tracking every claim back to primary sources. Reporters paste notes, links, transcripts, and documents into a “claim map” where each sentence is tagged with supporting evidence, confidence level, and publication risk (e.g., anonymous source, outdated data, single-source). An AI assistant suggests missing citations, flags potential misquotes, and highlights where a claim relies on weak sourcing. Editors get a one-page “proof packet” view: what’s asserted, what supports it, what’s still unverified, and what needs legal review. The goal isn’t to replace reporting—it’s to reduce preventable errors, speed up editing, and make corrections less frequent and less embarrassing. It also generates a public-facing “sources and methodology” appendix when appropriate.
