SpaceSignal

SpaceSignal is a mobile + desktop companion app that helps people protect personal privacy in shared physical spaces (roommates, partners, coworkers, hotels, co-living). It uses a phone’s sensors and optional desktop tray app to detect “privacy risk moments” like someone approaching your desk, your door opening, or your screen being visible from behind. Instead of pretending to be a security system, it focuses on low-friction social signaling and quick actions: a configurable “Do Not Disturb / Private” status, subtle sound or haptic alerts, automatic screen blur/lock, and a shared household/office status board. It also includes a simple “privacy routines” feature (e.g., lock screen when you stand up, mute smart speakers during calls). This is not magic: detection can be imperfect, so the app emphasizes user control, clear confidence indicators, and manual override.
