SpecimenSync
SpecimenSync is a mobile + web app for entomology labs and field teams to capture, standardize, and reconcile specimen metadata fast. In the field, users scan QR codes, log GPS, habitat notes, trap type, and photos offline, then sync when connected. In the lab, curators bulk-validate records against controlled vocabularies (Darwin Core-friendly), flag missing fields, and generate collection labels. An AI assist (optional) suggests taxonomic candidates from photos and auto-extracts text from handwritten labels, but it never “auto-commits” changes without review. Exports target the boring reality: CSV/Excel, Darwin Core Archive, and APIs for common collection systems. The goal isn’t flashy ID; it’s reducing the time wasted cleaning data, chasing provenance, and fixing mismatched specimen IDs across notebooks, phones, and spreadsheets.
