SporePermit

SporePermit is a mobile + web app that helps foragers, researchers, educators, and small labs avoid accidental legal trouble when collecting, transporting, or sharing fungal specimens. Users select their location, activity (foraging, research sampling, teaching collection, shipping), and species (if known). The app generates a plain-language compliance checklist: land access rules, protected areas, permit requirements, invasive/prohibited species flags, and shipping constraints. It also stores a “collection log” with GPS, photos, habitat notes, and chain-of-custody fields that can be exported as a PDF for land managers or institutional review. This is not a magic “legal shield”: it’s a decision-support tool that reduces mistakes and paperwork. Monetization is subscription for power users (export, team logs, institutional templates) and institutional plans for universities, mycological societies, and consultancies.
