StopCrowd

StopCrowd is a mobile + web app that predicts bus crowding and seat availability per trip, not just arrival time. Riders choose a less-crowded bus or a different stop based on real-time and forecasted load, reducing missed boardings and miserable commutes. It combines transit GTFS-RT feeds with lightweight rider check-ins (one-tap “packed/okay/empty”), optional Bluetooth-based occupancy sampling in partner fleets, and historical patterns (school days, events, weather). The app shows a simple “crowd meter” for each incoming bus, plus alerts like “next bus is full—walk 2 minutes to Stop B for a better chance.” For agencies, a dashboard highlights chronic overload segments and time windows to adjust dispatching. Reality check: accuracy will be mediocre without agency data or enough riders, so the MVP must focus on a few cities/corridors and prove value before expanding.
