StoryScout is a mobile app (with a parent web dashboard) that helps families find truly kid-appropriate audiobooks and podcasts without endless searching. Parents set a child profile (age, sensitivities like “no bullying” or “no scary,” values, preferred topics, and daily time limits). Kids browse a simple, visual library and can request new topics (“space dogs,” “soccer mysteries”). The app uses AI to generate short “content cards” and safety labels by analyzing episode transcripts (or publisher-provided text), flagging risky themes, ads, and manipulative prompts. It also supports “5-minute fillers” for car rides and “20-minute bedtime” playlists with consistent volume leveling. Brutal reality: licensing is hard and expensive, so the MVP should start by indexing publicly available kids podcasts + a small set of licensed partners, then expand as retention proves out.
