SubletShield is a mobile + web app that helps students avoid getting scammed when subletting rooms or taking over leases. It guides both parties through a lightweight verification flow: identity check, proof-of-ownership/lease upload, and a standardized sublet agreement. Payments run through an escrow-style hold so the renter doesn’t lose a deposit if the keys never show up or the listing is fake. For landlords/property managers who allow sublets, it offers a simple approval portal and audit trail. The app focuses on the messy, high-risk weeks around semester breaks when scams spike and students are rushed. It won’t magically make housing cheaper or guarantee a perfect roommate, but it can reduce the most common, expensive failure: sending money to a stranger for a place that doesn’t exist or isn’t theirs to sublet.
