SwitchCost

SwitchCost is a mobile + desktop app that quantifies the hidden tax of context switching. It runs quietly in the background (with explicit permissions) and detects app/window changes, meeting blocks, notifications, and rapid task hopping. You label only a few core work categories (e.g., deep work, admin, comms), and it estimates “switching overhead” and recovery time using lightweight models calibrated to your patterns. The output is not another to-do list—it’s a weekly energy report: when you fragment your day, which tools trigger it, and what a realistic schedule would look like if you protected focus. It suggests small, enforceable rules (e.g., batch Slack 3 times/day, 45-minute meeting caps) and can optionally enforce them via OS-level blockers. This is brutally practical: if you won’t change behavior, it won’t pretend you can.
