TariffLens

TariffLens is a mobile + web app that helps households and small businesses in under-electrified regions verify whether their electricity bills or prepaid token deductions match the official tariff and their actual usage. Users snap a photo of a bill, meter screen, or token receipt; the app extracts key fields, checks them against published tariffs (and local taxes/fees), and flags likely overbilling, wrong tariff class, or suspicious “extra charges.” It also generates a simple, printable dispute packet with the evidence, dates, and a clear explanation that can be submitted to the utility, regulator, or consumer group. For communities with unreliable connectivity, the app caches tariff tables offline and syncs when online. This is not magic: it won’t fix outages or corrupt systems overnight, but it can reduce silent leakage, give consumers leverage, and create aggregated, anonymized heatmaps of billing issues for NGOs and regulators.
