TariffProof is a mobile + web app that helps households and small businesses in emerging markets verify whether their electricity bills match the official tariff and their actual usage. Users snap a photo of their bill and (optionally) their meter; the app extracts readings, applies the correct tariff rules for their area, and flags likely overbilling, estimated bills that don’t follow policy, or suspicious jumps. It then generates a simple, printable dispute packet (with calculations, dates, and photos) and tracks the complaint status with the utility or regulator. For communities, it aggregates anonymized reports into a neighborhood dashboard showing hotspots of billing issues—useful for NGOs, consumer groups, and local government. This is not a magic “lower your bill” app; it’s a verification and accountability tool that reduces information asymmetry and makes disputes faster and more evidence-based.
