TextWitness

TextWitness is a web + mobile app for creating verifiable, citation-ready snapshots of digital sacred texts that change over time (websites, apps, PDFs, scanned pages). Users capture a passage, the surrounding context, source URL or file hash, edition/translation metadata, and a timestamp, then generate a shareable “witness card” with a permanent link and exportable citation. The app focuses on integrity: it stores the original capture, a cryptographic fingerprint, and an audit trail so teachers, students, and researchers can show exactly what they referenced. It also supports side-by-side comparisons of two captures to highlight differences (wording, verse numbering, footnotes). This is not a replacement for reading apps; it’s a verification and citation layer for sermons, academic work, interfaith dialogue, and content moderation disputes where “that’s not what it said” arguments waste time.
