TideRouter

TideRouter is a web + mobile app that helps small-vessel operators plan routes that account for ocean circulation, not just wind and waves. Users pick a start/end point (or upload a GPX track), select departure time, and the app overlays forecast surface currents, eddies, and drift vectors from public ocean models. It then estimates time, fuel burn, and drift risk for multiple route options, highlighting segments where currents meaningfully help or hurt. The MVP focuses on a few high-traffic coastal regions where model resolution is good enough to be useful, and it’s honest when uncertainty is high. This is a combination traditional + AI app: traditional for data ingestion/visualization, AI to summarize “what changed since yesterday,” flag anomalous current patterns, and explain confidence in plain language. It’s not a magic autopilot—just decision support that saves time and reduces costly mistakes.
