ToxinScout is a mobile AI app that helps parrot and parakeet owners identify common household hazards before they hurt a bird. You point your camera at cookware, cleaners, candles, air fresheners, plants, and cage accessories; the app classifies items and flags likely risks like PTFE/PFOA nonstick coatings, aerosolized fragrances, heavy metals, and toxic plants. It then gives a plain-language “why it’s risky,” severity level, and safer alternatives you can actually buy. A quick room-by-room checklist builds a personalized “safe home” plan, plus reminders for high-risk situations (self-cleaning oven cycles, painting, pest control visits). This isn’t a vet replacement and it won’t catch everything, but it can reduce the most common, preventable exposures that owners routinely miss.
