TrailSerpent
TrailSerpent is a mobile app (with a lightweight web dashboard) that predicts snake encounter risk for a specific trail segment and time window. It combines public weather, habitat/land-cover data, elevation, and seasonality with community-reported sightings to generate a simple “low/medium/high” risk map and route overlay. Users can plan hikes, runs, hunts, or fieldwork with fewer surprises, and get context-aware alerts like “warm evening near water = higher activity.” Reports are structured (species optional), with photo evidence and location fuzzing to reduce poaching risk. The MVP focuses on a few high-traffic regions first (e.g., US Southeast/Southwest) to keep model quality credible. This is not a medical or ID app; it’s a practical situational-awareness tool that helps people choose routes, timing, and precautions without pretending it can guarantee safety.
