USBShield
USBShield is a desktop app that blocks one of the most ignored malware entry points: removable media. When a USB drive is inserted, it mounts in a locked “read-only sandbox” by default, scans for suspicious autorun behavior, hidden executables, and known bad file patterns, and then lets the user selectively copy out safe files. It also maintains an audit trail (what device, when, what files were accessed) that’s useful for small businesses without full IT. This is not a full antivirus replacement; it’s a focused control that reduces real-world infections caused by shared drives, contractors, print shops, schools, and air-gapped workflows. The MVP should prioritize Windows first (where USB-borne malware is still common), with a simple UI and clear “allow/deny” actions that non-technical users can understand.
