VegLabel

VegLabel is a mobile AI + traditional app that helps vegetarians quickly verify whether packaged foods are actually vegetarian, even when labels are vague. Users scan a barcode or take a photo of the ingredients list; the app flags non-veg ingredients (gelatin, rennet, carmine, fish-derived additives) and also highlights “gray-area” items (enzymes, natural flavors) with a confidence score. It supports different vegetarian styles (lacto-ovo, lacto, ovo, pescatarian toggle off by default, strict no-animal-enzymes) and remembers your rules. The app also warns about common hidden sources by region and brand, and lets users submit corrections with photo evidence. Brutal truth: this only works if the database is accurate and updated; the MVP must focus on a few countries and high-volume products, not “everything worldwide.”
